Magic moment: The series’s greatest showdown, as Gandalf faces the fiery Balrog on the bridge of Khazad-Dum.It’s true when they say that travel is as much a journey within as it is without, and the 2011 comedy drama ‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’ and its sequel ‘The Second Best Marigold Hotel’ are a great case in point. A simple tactic, perhaps, but a blindingly effective one. And that’s the reason why Jackson’s ‘Rings’ movies work, and will continue to thrill moviegoers for generations to come: the characters are as important as the special effects. Film is a powerful tool for escaping mundane reality, and no genre can transport you to a different place better than fantasy.
